I am a young Native American and am really into my tradional ways so, when I was going to propose to my girlfriend, I went to my now mother-in-law, presented her with five really beautiful horses and asked if I could marry her daughter.
She said yes.
I picked up my girlfriend from work and took her to the mountains. It was nighttime when we got there and there were a lot of stars. It was dead silent so I sang one of my favorite tradional love songs to her. It goes like this:
When I see your beautiful eyes,
I get weak inside,
From those butterflies, those butterflies,
When I see your beautiful eyes.
After singing love songs half the night, I got down on one knee and asked if she would marry me. She started to cry and said yes.

It was the weekend of my cousin's birthday and I was supposed to be taking her out to dinner. My boyfriend at the time was supposed to be out of town working.
While on our way to the restaurant my cousin got a phone call stating that she had to stop by her work and sign some papers—she is the General Manager at a condo resort in Myrtle Beach. While she went into her office she gave me the keys to one of the new rooms the resort had just finished remodelling. She wanted my opinion on how she did with the interior furniture decorations.
I didn't know that she only went her office to call the room to let my boyfriend and the rest of his family and mine that I was on my way. When I turned the key to enter the room my boyfriend was on his knees with a cake that said, Tabitha Will You Marry Me?"
The cake had a photo of us in the middle from when we went to his cousin wedding in Miami, Florida and in the top corner was the ring coming out of the cake. Along with the cake was a proposal letter that read:
"Tabitha, if I told a thousand times that I love you it wouldn't be enough. I cannot describe how much I love you but I do know that I love you with all my heart, soul, and mind. My life hasn't been the same since we became one. I thank God everyday for sending me a beautiful angel that I would love to spend the rest of my life with. You are the root to my tree that makes me stronger everyday. Your smile is like the sunshine on the coldest and rainy day. Your heart is like an ocean; very open and wide. You are simply amazing and I am very thankful to have met you. You have stood by me even when times were rough. I promise to cherish and love you forever. I often reminisce about the first day we met. When you climbed into my truck with your hair dripping wet from the storm, I smiled because I believed that God was washing away our past and creating our future. It was at that moment I told myself that I wanted to make you my wife. So here I stand in front of the people we both know love us very dear and would like to share this moment with us asking you, the woman whom I love, adore, and would like to spend the rest of my life with. Tabitha Anice Hicks Will You Marry Me?"

The circus was in town and we decided to take my fiance's niece and nephew.
During intermission he told us that he had to run to the bathroom and, before I knew it, he was riding on an elephant—my favorite animal—and holding a microphone.
When he was in the spotlight everyone was quiet because they thought the show was starting again. When all the noise had subsided he looked up at me and asked me to marry him in front of everyone!!
I yelled out, "Yes!" and then added, "By the way, we're having a baby!"
We are currently planning our wedding for after our baby boy Robbie is born.

I just got my engagement ring back! Nearly 7 months after getting engaged!
I'll tell it from the beginning:
On May 24, 2008 my husband-to-be and I had a huge row (argument — don't ask me what over, I didn't know then and I still don't know!). He stomped outside and dug the garden furiously for a couple of hours.
By the time he came in he had calmed down and we spent the rest of the day doing normal weekend things with our son.
After our son had gone to bed and we had had tea, John couldn't keep still, it was really starting to bug me but I didn't say anything. I was in the middle of watching something on TV when he rushed up to the loo. He came down and pured himself a glass of wine. Then he came over to my chair and stood before me. He said, "Claire, you know you are a real pain sometimes and you drive me mad?! Well, I still love you and will you marry me?"
I looked at him stupidly trying to process what he had said. Of course I wasn't expecting this kind of proposal (no mountain-top picnic, sun shining, birds singing etc — this can't be it!). He repeated again, "I mean it Claire, will you marry me?" I jumped up and hugged him hard and said, "Yes" several times!
Then I rang family and friends to tell them the good news! Everyone was chuffed to bits, they all love him!
My Mum offered my Granny's ring to me (she had left it to me anyway) as an engagement ring. So the next time we went down to see her, sometime mid-June, she produced it and another one which I didn't like. Granny's ring looked like it had just been dug up from the garden! It was dirty and the band so thin it could have snapped any second, it was bent out of shape, too. Not to mention it was huge on my skinny finger!
I took it away to get it mended. The jeweler who was recommended to me said it would need a complete overhaul to the tune of £700! Well, neither we nor my Dad could afford that so it sat rather forlornly on top of a shelf waiting to be worn again!
In August I gave it to my mum who took it to her jewelers and they sent it off to a shop in London (I could've done that!). They came back with a quote of £69! So I agreed and they basically sorted out the band and cleaned it up a bit. I need it checked every few months to make sure it won't start dropping diamonds all over the place.
When my Mum visited us at the weekend she brought it with her and she gave it to my fiance. He came into the kitchen and got down on one knee to propose again! That is a bit more like it!
Now flashing my ring with pride! Whooppee!

I have always wanted to do things differently, also something original and that cannot easily be done by anyone else, this way it would stay unique. It must be very romantic, also I wanted it to be "huge", I mean so huge that it must be one of the biggest proposals in the world.
I wanted it to be multi-staged so I took 3 months to prepare.
I was in the police, had a very low salary and could not really afford anything expensive. I decided to ask the various role players individually to help me for free. Luckily everyone I went to loved the idea so much that they all agreed to do their part. I will have to write this in stages.
Stage 1: My girlfriend got an invitation to be at home and ready at 7:00 p.m. on Valentine's night. A Rolls Royce limousine picked her up and took her on a cruise through Sunnyside, Pretoria. I was waiting at Sterland Movie Complex for her to arrive at 7:30.
I had arranged to book the first five rows of the Sterland 3 (1,000 seater) Cinema Hall. It was for the 8:00 premiere of the movie "Michael". What she didn't know is that I had invited a few dozen of her and my work colleagues. They were already seated inside in the dark. Seeing as it was a Friday night and Valentine's Day in the busiest part of Pretoria that night I had arranged with the traffic department to close off two lanes of Pretorius Street from right in front of Sterland to the soccer stadium, 100 metres down the road, as to accommodate the guests quickly and in a convoy formation. There were about 20+ cars.
Stage 2: She arrived on time and I was there waiting for her. We went into the cinema with the lights off. There were candles laid on the floor all around to give a dim light. The rest of the audience were real moviegoers who also had no idea of what was coming. As the ads started she got nice and settled. Then just before the main movie, a music video of one of our favourite songs started with the picture out of focus, she was smiling as she recognized the song, as the picture came into focus I saw the look on her face when she realized it was me on the big screen. She was shocked and speechless, as the music video progressed she saw me walking in the park and going to all the places we used to visit, including me walking past the "Milky Lane" shop and looking at the sign with fond memories as to the place where we first got together. The music playing was "Always" by Bon Jovi. Three minutes into the video when the lyrics of the song were "...to say these words to you..." (on the screen i was looking over a mountain and then slowly turned around and from the screen proposed to her). These are the words I used, "Anelda, I love you, you know these words are true, I've only loved one woman, that woman is you...a long time ago you stole away my heart, ever since you left me, my life\'s been torn apart, I truly believe you are my destiny...my darling...I ask you to marry me!"
At that stage she was speechless and unable to talk. The lights were put on and the screening stopped. There was a huge applause as the audience slowly started to realize what happened. All her friends were behind us. We never got to see the movie, we left directly to the foyer with the guests as there was more in store.
Stage 3: In the foyer there were candles in the shape of a heart on the floor. We danced to another song of "ours" all alone with all the moviegoers watching us. At the end of the song, to my surprise as well, one of the PR ladies at Sterland had secretly called a friend who owned a bridal shop. We had been given a full wedding planning package as well as a free wedding dress for my fiance. Milky Lane had also joined in and made a special Valentine's ice-cream cake for us and the guests.
The story was featured in the You and Hisgenoot magazine.

My fiance, Will, and I met in New York City three years ago and spent the most amazing day walk through Times Square and going to Central Park and eating at the cutest little pizzeria, ending with a stroll and a flower.
We went to Sean Paul Jogn billboard and I gave him a kiss on the cheek and told him one day that would be him (he's a clothing designer). After that I went back home to Colorado.
We stayed close friends talking and writing each other as often as we could. And, as life often does, we grew apart. We would randomly talk but nothing too serious, but we never left each others life.
Six months ago I ordered a hoodie from him, and the next day I got a dozen roses from him. I live in California now so we've been going back forth in a bi-coastal relationship. Two weeks ago I went to New Jersey to meet his family and he took me back into the city. We went to the love statue, back to the billboard, and finally back to Central Park.
Will sat me on the rock that we had been to years ago. He told me that he loved me more than anything in the whole and that he wanted to spend everyday for the rest of our lives showing me how in love he was. Then I blurted out "Oh my god, are you proposing?!?!"
He laughed out loud and got on his knees and hand me the beautiful princess cut ring I have EVER seen! I said I do, and as we left he got the same flower from three years ago, a pink gerber daisy. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful day or fiance. I am so in love!!

I took this out of my journal: December 24, 2005.
I thought today was going to be an ordinary day. This was actually my first time that I worked over the Christmas holiday. So, needless to say, I wasn't really excited about this Christmas season. But, little did I know I had a huge surprise later on that evening.
I really didn't do much that morning, just kind of cleaned up my room and that's about it. My fiance, Josh, finally came over to my house after not seeing him all day. To be honest, I was bummed because I at least wanted to spend some time with him on Christmas Eve, but I was so tired after working graveyard shifts. Josh and I sat and watched TV and he got a call from his brother, Jake, saying his car broke down. I was so tired that I just didn't want to go. But, Josh said that he wanted to spend some time with me on Christmas Eve. So, we went up to where Jake's car had "broken" down.
Josh had me rev on the engine while him and Jake tried to jump the car, or at least I thought that's what was happening. Anyway, Josh and I had finally got Jake's car "started" and he had left. Josh and I got in his truck and Josh tried to start his car, and it wouldn't start. So, he called his brother and asked him to try and jump us because I didn't want to be late for work.
Anyway, we "happened" to be at "our spot", it has the best view of Denver. We waited there for Jake to come back and help us. Jake called so we headed back to the car, but Josh suddenly dropped to one knee and asked me for my hand in marriage. I couldn't believe it!
I asked if my parents were okay with this, and he assured me that he had already spoken with them and asked them while I was at work two weeks ago! Of course, I said YES with tears of joy. We kissed and embraced in the most perfect and happiest moment of my life. Every girl dreams of this day, and I always dreamed for this moment with the man I loved more than anyone in this world.
We then started down the hill and to my surprise there was a limo waiting for us. It was a tuxedo limo, one of the only ones left in Denver. He said he spent weeks trying to find it!
Little did I know that Jake's car was fine all along, and while I was revving the engine Jake had given Josh the ring. Josh had taken the cable off of his battery, so that way when he started his car it wouldn't start. Sneaky, sneaky. Ha ha. Then the reason I found out Josh didn't come over early was because he and Jake got me red roses, and made homemade chocolate covered strawberries, and sparkling cider because I had to go to work and had it in the limo. We took the limo downtown to look at the Civic Center lights. Then we took the limo up to grandma's house to show her and my parents the limo and my beautiful ring.
Although I had to work the graveyard shift...It was still the most perfect night of my life! I will NEVER forget about this night! We were married on September 15, 2007 and have now been married a year! We are doing great, and more in love than ever!

After dating LaTasha for almost two years, I decided it was time to pop the question. I've never been the romantic type, but I wanted this proposal to be as romantic and as memorable as possible.
When LaTasha got home from work one evening I had rose petals trailing from the doorway to the bathroom, where a hot bubble bath (also filled with rose petals) awaited her. The bed was also covered in rose petals in the shape of a heart. I told her to relax and enjoy a bath and that tonight was going to be an evening for her to unwind. She excitedly got into the bathtub, and I began stage two of my plan.
I snuck out of the house while she was in the tub, leaving a note on the bedpost for her to find as soon as she got out. The note instructed her to get dressed and go to her car, where another note would be found. It also explained that my daughter would be with her to videotape the evening's events. So LaTasha got dressed and went to her car, where she found Note 2.
Note 2 began the "scavenger hunt", and gave clues for her to follow to find the next note at a local store.
Inside, she was given Note 3 by the clerk, which instructed her to go to the home she grew up in and look inside the mailbox for Note 4.
Note 4 clued her in to go to where we had our first date. She rode out to Fatz Cafe and the hostess gave her Note 5, which told her she could find her next clue at our favorite weekend recreational spot.
So LaTasha was off to the bowling alley, where the counter-person gave her Note 6, which gave her clues to find the next note at a bar we frequent. She drove off to Dazzler's, a local nightspot, and the barkeep passed her Note 7.
Note 7 told her to continue her journey to her favorite restaurant. She drove to Ruby Tuesday's, and the friendly hostess passed her Note 8, which shared the information that the final clue was inside her car the entire time!
Inside her trunk she would find Note 9, which would clue her in to her final destination. But it wasn't going to be easy.
Note 9 had a word search puzzle (LaTasha loves word search puzzles), and all of the words in the puzzle were made up of the names of our children, favorite places, people, and pets. The remaining letters not circled in the puzzle would give her a clue as to her last destination. The remaining letters spelled out "Where Ian Works", Ian being a mutual friend (who aided me in setting up the finale).
So LaTasha was off to a local restaurant called Chief's, where inside sat our family and friends. LaTasha pulled up and entered where the DJ, who asked her to cast her attention to the giant pull-down screen, immediately greeted her. On screen, a video that I had created began playing. In the video I spoke of how much LaTasha meant to me and how I had created this video to commemorate the times and memories we had shared.
The video then transitioned to a picture video accompanied by Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". Over three-dozen photos of the many wonderful memories we made together were displayed in the video, which then ended with a proclamation of my love over the final picture.
As the lights came up, I appeared before her, and her eyes were full of tears, the biggest smile I've ever seen on her face. I dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me. She said, "Yes!" and I arose to hug and kiss her as the enthusiastic crowd on hand applauded us. Even patrons of the restaurant not with our party came by to congratulate us and tell us how beautiful they thought the video was.
To propose to my love in front of our families, friends, and even complete strangers, was one of the most amazing and memorable nights of our lives.
My daughter captured the event on video, and I edited the video together with other pictures to share this event with everyone.
